Hikes in the Great Smoky Mountains could have all kinds of features along the way, and there are several perfect for groups. Here are the top 5 hikes in the Great Smoky Mountains for large groups:

1. Alum Cave Trail

alum cave trailAlum Cave Trail is a popular hiking trail that is ideal for large groups. It is a moderate trail that is 5 miles roundtrip. It is also one of the trails you can use to get to the summit of Mount LeConte. Along this trail, you will hike through the woods and get some mountain views along the way. There are several man made rock staircases to make the trail easier to navigate. There are also a ton of geological features along this trail. Once you reach the bluffs, you’ll be amazed by the sheer size of them and the view of the mountains.

2. Abrams Falls Trail

If you plan on visiting Cades Cove, you should hike on Abrams Falls Trail while you’re there. This trail is ideal for large groups because you can travel it together or break into smaller groups. The trail is considered moderate and is 5 miles roundtrip. You’ll hike through old forest growth with huge trees and a ton of vegetation on the forest floor. The creek follows the hike for the last little bit until you reach Abrams Falls, a 20-foot-tall waterfall with water gushing over the rocks.

3. Gatlinburg Trail

gatlinburg trailOne of the best hikes in the Great Smoky Mountains for groups is Gatlinburg Trail. This trail is right outside of downtown Gatlinburg. It is considered easy and is 3.8 miles roundtrip. It is also one of the only dog friendly trails in the national park. You’ll cross the river, follow alongside creeks, and make your way through the forest. There are old remains of homes from the pioneer days along this trail too.

4. Twin Creeks Trail

Another easy hike in the Great Smoky Mountains that’s great for groups is Twin Creeks Trail. It is 4.5 miles roundtrip and is near Gatlinburg. You’ll walk through the woods and enjoy the forest views. You might see small wildlife along the way, and there’s the possibility of wildflowers in the spring and summer. Along the way, you’ll come across the Twin Creeks Science Center and the Resource Center, which are pretty cool to check out.

5. Porters Creek Trail

porters creek trailYour group will also want to hike Porters Creek Trail. It is considered easy to moderate and is 7 miles roundtrip. You’ll get incredible wooded views, see old homestead remains, and a cemetery. There’s a waterfall along this trail you won’t want to miss!
