When you drive through Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, you’ll notice that some of the most popular attractions in the area are mountain coasters. These fun rides feature a cart that is securely attached to a steel track, and you use a brake lever to control the speed of your ride down the mountain! The Smokies are also home to the mountain coaster’s predecessor, the alpine slide, and you’ll find this unique attraction at Ober Mountain! Here are the top 4 reasons why you need to ride the alpine slide at Ober Mountain:
The Smoky Mountain Bobsled at Ober Mountain offers a historic experience, as this alpine slide has been operating since 1976! While many of these rides across the country have been replaced by mountain coasters, you’ll still find this alpine slide operating in perfect condition. The sled-like carts are very similar to those found on the mountain coasters in the area, with a simple brake lever to control the speed of your ride. The big difference is that rather than a steel track, the cart rolls along a concrete trough for more of a bobsled-type experience. You’ll twist and turn through the natural terrain for a unique and thrilling adventure!
The alpine slide at Ober Mountain is an exciting outdoor attraction where you can enjoy some thrills among the scenic backdrop of the Smokies. Once at Ober Mountain, you’ll take the Sky Village Express (scenic chairlift) to the midway point and unload to board your “chariot”. At this point, you are off on your descent through the beautiful forests of Mount Harrison! The Smoky Mountain Bobsled is included with the wristband program at Ober Mountain, which means you can ride as many times as you want throughout the day.
Another one of the top reasons why you need to ride the alpine slide at Ober Mountain is because it is fun for all ages! Kids only have to be at least 3 years old to participate, and kids ages 3-6 are required to ride with an adult. The carts are very easy for anyone to operate with the push/pull lever, so pull on the brake to slow down or push forward to go full throttle down the mountain.
The Smoky Mountain Bobsled actually features two side-by-side alpine slides so that you can race your family and friends to the bottom. Challenge your buddies and see if you have what it takes to become the alpine slide champion! If you’re looking for some additional activities to enjoy while at Ober Mountain, you’ll find plenty to do all day long. In addition to the alpine slide, Ober Mountain offers the Aerial Tramway, Mountain Coaster, Cloud Catcher Zipline, Summer Tubing, Ice Bumper Cars, and much more.
